Q: I sold my car and bought a new vehicle. Can I re-use my current sticker?
NEW Residents New Village residents have 30 days from the date of residency to purchase a vehicle sticker at the regular rate; otherwise a penalty will apply. Vehicle stickers for new residents must be purchased at the Finance Department in Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St., 1st Floor), as proof of residency is required. NEW Vehicles Residents who purchase new vehicles have 30 days from the date of sale to purchase a vehicle sticker at the regular rate; otherwise a penalty will apply. Vehicle stickers for new vehicles must be purchased at the Finance Department in Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St., 1st Floor), as proof of purchase date is required. If a new license plate is not received within 30 days from the vehicle purchase date, a resident should not wait for the new plate number, but rather indicate that the license has been “applied for.” Once the resident has received the plate number, the resident must contact the Finance Department at 847/392-6000 to record the license plate number. Failure to display a valid vehicle sticker subjects the resident to a possible citation. REPLACEMENT Vehicles Residents who change vehicles after having purchased a 2018-2019 vehicle sticker should remove the sticker from the vehicle and contact the Finance Department at 847/392-6000 with updated vehicle information to determine eligibility for transference of the sticker from one vehicle to another for no additional fee. FIRST-TIME Seniors Seniors who turn 65 prior to May 1 of the current sticker year are eligible to purchase a vehicle sticker at a reduced rate. However, just one reduced rate per family household is allowed and the vehicle must be owned and operated by the senior for a non-commercial purpose. Vehicle stickers for first-time seniors may be purchased IN PERSON at the Finance Department of Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St., 1st Floor), as a current driver’s license is required at the time of purchase.
Special status stickers are available for $6 for senior citizens, holders of handicapped license plates, disabled veterans and active military personnel, but are limited to one per household.

Key Factors to Keep in Mind • If you have an expired Mount Prospect vehicle sticker and did not receive a renewal application in the mail, this does not absolve you of the responsibility to purchase a sticker by April 30. • If the vehicle(s) you have now is/are not the same as the vehicle(s) you had when last year’s sticker was purchased, the application form will contain information about the former vehicle(s). In that case, simply indicate that you no longer own that vehicle and enter the new vehicle information on the application. Late Penalty If you do not purchase a vehicle sticker by April 30th, a 50% late penalty will be added to the cost of your sticker. If you receive a Police Department citation for not having an up-to date sticker, you may have to (1) pay a fine; (2) pay the basic cost of the new sticker AND (3) pay the late penalty. You can avoid this by purchasing your sticker(s) on time. The penalty will NOT initially apply to new Village residents or to residents who purchase replacement vehicles on or after May 1st. In either case, you will have 30 days in which to purchase your sticker without a late penalty. During the grace period, proof of purchase or move-in date will be required to assure that a surcharge penalty is not imposed. For more information regarding vehicle stickers, please call the Finance Department at 847/392-6000.
A: The sticker is not transferable. A replacement sticker can be obtained for $1 from the Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Ave., between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

HANDICAPPED Residents Certain individuals with disabilities may be eligible to receive one sticker for no charge. If the vehicle does not have handicapped license plates, a permanent handicapped placard (or photocopy of such) must be presented annually by April 30 to obtain the sticker for no charge. Please contact the Finance Department for more information. FOR ALL OTHER RESIDENTS, THERE ARE A VARIETY OF PAYMENT OPTIONS FROM WHICH TO CHOOSE:
A: The Wilmette Police Department enforces the April 15th purchase/display deadline with the mailing delay being taken into consideration. This way customers will have time to purchase online all the way up to April 15th. Online purchases made AFTER April 15th could result in a citation being issued if the vehicle is observed parked on a Village street without a valid sticker displayed.
Passenger vehicle stickers for Palatine residents are on sale and must be displayed before July 1.
• ONLINE • By Mail • In Person at Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St.), Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Q: I purchased my sticker(s) online. When and how will I receive them?
The sale of vehicle stickers begins on March 1st each year and stickers must be displayed by April 15th. Vehicle stickers purchased after May 15th will be assessed a late fee equal to the original cost of the sticker (ex: a passenger vehicle sticker will cost $160). Vehicles not displaying the current year’s vehicle sticker are subject to a citation.
All vehicles registered in the State of Illinois with a Wilmette address, must also be registered with the Village through the purchase of a vehicle license sticker. The costs for these stickers are listed below:
A: Stickers purchased online will be mailed to you directly. Customers typically receive their stickers within 1 week of purchase.
200 E. Wood StreetPalatine, IL 60067Phone Number: (847) 358-7500Hours: Monday – Friday 8 AM – 5 PM
A: Stickers are mailed individually to help ensure that stickers are sent to the correct household. The Village negotiated a discounted postage rate to help offset this extra expense. The additional expense of this mailing technique was taken into consideration when selecting the vendor to manage the Village’s program.
New residents to Wilmette have a 30 day grace period in which a sticker may be purchased without penalty. Stickers which are lost or stolen may be replaced by purchasing a duplicate sticker at a cost of $1.00. Residents who purchase a new vehicle and will be transferring their license plates to the new vehicle may purchase a transfer sticker at a cost of $1.00.
Q: I didn’t receive a renewal application in the mail for a vehicle I own. Do I still need to purchase a sticker?
The cost for each passenger car sticker is $30 until June 30. Stickers purchased July and later will incur a late payment penalty of $20 for a total fee of $50 per vehicle.
