Thank you @kidlitexchange for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.Meet Martina Rivera, also known as Sticker Girl. Martina has a pretty cool secret. Stickers magically come to life when she peels them off their sheet.
She just has to decide when to use them to her advantage. The images on this sticker sheet include: a treasure chest, a palette of paint, a cell phone, a girl soccer player, a zombie DJ, a chipmunk ballerina, a pizza, a honeybee with a trumpet and a hot-air balloon.
It also includes the cutest little sidekick, a talking cupcake named Craig!!! All of these stickers, along with her best friend Eve, are going to help Martina do something sheâs absolutely terrified to do.
Run for student council president. Along the way, they will create endless chaos, but also teach Sticker Girl some valuable lessons. This was a super cute early chapter book, especially for sticker fanatics.
Martina is a wonderful main character. Sheâs a shy introvert who definitely has some anxiety stepping outside of her comfort zone. It was refreshing to see a character who is a constant worry wart too.
I think many young readers will be able to identify with her personality. The idea of stickers coming to life is so creative and imaginative. My favorites were definitely DJ DK and the non gender conforming dancing squirrel.
This was book two in the Sticker Girl series. I havenât read the first book, yet. There were a few things mentioned from it, but I had no problem following along and reading this as a stand alone.
A third book was set up at the tail too. With cute illustrations and a unique concept this would be a huge hit for second or third graders.

Thanks to the @kidlitexchange network for the review copy of this book – all opinions are my own.Martina collects stickers and sheâs discovered that when she peels them off they sometimes come alive! This is the second book in the Sticker Girl series, which is one that is sure to become a favorite of sticker loving girls.
We learn that in the first book she and her best friend rode a Pegasus that jumped off the sheet. Now her sidekick, Craig who is a talking cupcake sticker is back and encouraging Martina to take some risks.
He thinks sheâd make a perfect class president, although the most popular boy in her class is sure to win. Luckily, the stickers she peels off one by one agree and are ready to help her take the big step! This book gives some good examples of friendship, taking risks and collaboration.
And each book contains a list of stickers!

“Tashjianâs peppy story is packed with adorably upbeat illustrations of Martina and her stickers, as well as jaunty sound-effect words and doodled accents. In her easy-to-read first-person narrative, Latina Martina reveals not only her passion for cute stickers but also her struggle with social anxiety . . . a healthy dose of emotional heft.”-Booklist

‘Sticker Girl’ centers around Martina. Her and her family move from San Diego to LA. Martina is quite shy, so when she changes schools, she finds it difficult to make new friends. One of her favorite things to do is collect and play with stickers.
When her father comes back from a trip, he gives Martina a unique sheet of stickers. Martina soon discovers they are magical and come to life when peeled off the sheet. One of the first stickers she peels off is a snappy cupcake named ‘Craig’.
Craig and the other stickers help Martina pull out of her shell and make friends at school. When I was a preteen I was also obsessed with stickers. Back then there wasn’t as many things for kids to do and collecting stickers was a fun way to pass the time.
Because of this, I connected with Martina instantly.I just really loved this book. It really has a lot going for. The cover is beautiful and in the back is a copy of the ‘magical’ sticker sheet. I also love that this is a diverse book, as Martina and her family are hispanic.
The story accurately described how painful it can be to be a shy child. The prose was vivid and easy to read. The characters were wonderful. The human characters were genuine and the ‘sticker’ characters were hilarious and very fun.
‘Craig’ was funny and cranky and cute.’Sticker Girl’ is a fun and wonderful way for preteens to learn about self-esteem and self-reliance.

Gr 3â5âAfter a year in her new town, Martina is still trying to make friends. She is extremely shy, which prevents her from speaking in class or making overtures to her classmates. Although Martina has a loving family, with an older teen brother and a rambunctious two-year-old brother, she is often overlooked. She relies on her hobby of sticker collecting and imaginary play and calls herself “Sticker Girl.” But playing with stickers takes on a whole new meaning when Martina peels a sticker from a sheet given to her by her father. With a cascade of confetti and a bang, the rainbow sticker becomes a real glittering rainbow in the middle of her room. Martina is dazzled by the possibilities. She finds that the cupcake sticker speaks and is named Craig. Craig the cupcake soon becomes her constant companion. At school, Craig intervenes and replies for Martina when she is tongue-tied, so she ends up working on a team with two popular, fair-haired kids. Martina develops a friendship with her teammates and is at times helped hilariously by mischievous and misbehaving sticker pals, especially when she tries to use their magical abilities to help solve her real-world problems. Martina is an appealing character and expresses her thoughts and fears in an intelligent and approachable manner. Her Latina heritage is well portrayed, and some common Spanish words are used in the text. Font changes and charming sticker drawings will appeal to readers. This is a fun tale about a shy, introverted child who finally manages to leave her fantasy realm for the real world, though perhaps not completely. The discovery of another set of possibly magic stickers at the end sets the stage for a sequel. VERDICT A good book for similarly shy youngsters or those who like a lighthearted story about overcoming adversity.âGretchen Crowley, formerly at Alexandria City Public Libraries, VA

Love Janet Tashjian writing, Sticker Girl and My Life As….. My 3rd and 4th grade students love all her books.
“Tashjian introduces a smart, young Latina protagonist in a strong series opener for young readers.. .With humor, delicacy, and creativity, Tashjian folds in cultural and socioeconomic references to develop Martina and her family while also inserting fun and informative scientific facts gleaned from Martina’s lessons at school. Clouds, confetti, stars, and bubble-shaped letters accompany Wilmink’s grayscale depictions and match the sticker motif. . . Readers will be eager for the follow-up adventures of Sticker Girl.”-Kirkus Reviews

Yes my daughter enjoyed the book. But she still likes the first one better. This took her a couple of days to read and thatâs not like her. The first one she finished in about an hour and 1/2. So i assume this one didnât keep her interest as well.

This is a great book that I feel many people can relate to. I for one am not an extrovert and can understand the struggles that come behind it when surrounded by them. I think many teenagers or younger would enjoy this book.
The plot and character development is beyond amazing and I hope to read more of Janet’s upcoming stories.Cheers

I received this book from the publisher at no cost.Martina has just moved to a new school and is super shy. When her father returns from a business trip bearing gifts for the whole family, he brings her back a sheet of stickers.
Her whole life revolves around stickers, so this pleases Martina to no end. These are no ordinary stickers but are wonderfully magical! The stickers help her overcome her shyness and become more confident in her life.
As the stickers come to life, they encourage her to make friends and be more courageous. The story is very accessible for children that are just mastering chapter books and it has a very positive message about overcoming fears.
I loved it when Martina realizes that she doesn’t need the stickers to have friends and she becomes secure in the fact that she doesn’t have to be shy anymore. This is the beginning to a new and promising series.
The adorable artwork that goes along with the story is a wonderful addition.

“Magical stickers yield an offbeat set of characters including a lazy fairy, a blunt cupcake, and a karaoke-singing ladybug, all of whom help Marti find the strength to make friends and come out of her shell. Tashjian sympathetically portrays the fears that can derail an otherwise confident girl like Marti, whose emotional journey is both realistic and humorous, as when Craig the cupcake impersonates Martiâs voice to invite her entire class to a party. Newcomer Wilminkâs emoji-cute illustrations play well with the upbeat tone of this satisfying series kickoff.”-Publishers Weekly

An ILA Children’s Choice Reading List Selection”Readers will want to stick with future episodes of this a-PEEL-ling and accessible series.”–Kirkus Reviews
Sticker Girl Rules The School is the 2nd book in the Sticker Girl series! This might have been a short read for myself but I found myself really enjoying the story of stickers coming to life! It’s books like this one that made me wish that I had growing up.
This has everything that a kid wants to read about, it has your typical adventure with problems along the way and who doesn’t like the idea of stickers coming to life to either help with your problem or to cause problems!Even though this is the second book in this series, you don’t feel like you missed much of anything from the first book.
The way that the main character was dealing with her problems, I think with having to deal with school, friends and family matters that kids will easily relate to Martina Rivera! It’s the perfect chapter book for kids to read that will come with a sheet of stickers, that will provide hours of pure imagination and play time!Thank You to Janet Tashjian for writing a series that is totally fun and out of the box thinking for a series for younger readers!!I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from RockStar Book Tours!
